MY MEMORIES

Florida Home (continued)

Our times at The Plantation have been as near to perfect as can be. There are so many different kinds of activities, golf, bridge, concerts, chorus, etc., there is rarely a dull moment.

One day I was playing with a guy that shot his age, something guys try to do as they get older. By now I was in my 80’s and shooting scores in the high 80’s, so I starting thinking, I can do this. I eventually moved up to the forward tees and my scores started getting closer to that goal with each birthday. Several times I shot 40 on the front nine or the back nine but coupled that with 46 or more. Finally in February of 2020, with a 40 on the front and things were going good on the back nine. I didn’t realize how good it was until we added up the score of 38. I not only shot my age I was under it by six strokes. I was so over joyed that I bought the beers for all the guys in our league.

Nancy had had two hole-in-ones at Shady Brook. I had been playing golf for 65 years and never had one. Just three weeks after I shot under my age, it happened on Hole 13 of Cranes Roost golf course at The Planation. This time I was expected to buy the beers and I did.
